Steel Storefront in NYC
Flatiron District, New York
A refined steel frontage set into an existing masonry opening, holding fine members against large areas of glass.
The work
The frontage was developed to sit quietly within the existing facade. Member widths were held as narrow as the spans allowed so that the original stone piers remain the dominant vertical rhythm.
Glass sizes, entrance position and bulkhead returns were coordinated with the base building so the new work reads as part of the street rather than applied to it.
